Indie Game Academy - Press Kit

Turning students into gamedevs and gamedevs into game industry rockstars!
What is IGA?
Indie Game Academy (IGA) is a leading gamified online game development academy, teaching students the skills they need to join the game industry, either by making their own games and studios or joining existing ones.
IGA offers a diverse variety of courses and programs, from beginner to advanced, both free and paid, covering all aspects of game development, including programming, art, design, and marketing. IGA’s courses are taught by experienced industry professionals who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and skills with students, and students are encouraged to host their own classes to share their knowledge with their peers.
Our core mission is to decentralize game development, enabling more creators to launch their own studios and projects, and contribute to a more equitable and sustainable industry.
Through community support and practical learning, IGA aims to transform passion for games into reality, helping indies create their own place in the industry.

IGA Programs
Level 1: Embark
A weekend-long bootcamp designed for total beginners who want to take their first steps into game development. This introductory program provides foundational skills and knowledge, allowing participants to learn how to make a basic game and get a taste of the entire game development process, perfect for those with no prior experience, career changers, or hobbyists looking to turn their passion into a creative pursuit.
Level 2: Explore
A month-long bootcamp for those looking to hone their technical game development skills and experience the full solo development pipeline. This level is ideal for Level 1 graduates or aspiring solo developers who want to deepen their expertise. Students will be guided by an industry veteran to customize a fully complete game (the game changes every cohort), learning about the game engine, source control, and project management. Homework is tailored to individual students’ interests, such as narrative or visual design.
Level 3: Publish
A four-month program focused on simulating the experience of running an indie studio. Students are sorted into interdisciplinary teams to ideate, build, and publish an original, monetized game to a store of their choice. The program includes 32 live classes and 16 office hour sessions, guidance from seven veteran professors, and culminates in pitching their game to live industry publishers. Level 3 aims to equip students with the skills and experience to potentially found their own indie game studios.
Live Masterclass Series
Shorter, intensive, more focused sessions, taught by industry experts. The goal of these classes is to provide in-depth dives to different aspects of game development, such as legal foundations of indie studios or core aspects of game design, allowing students to explore specific areas within a shorter timeframe.
